Received the NSF CAREER award on Leveraging Grammar Books to Develop Language Technologies for Data-Scarce Languages; received an NSF Collaborative CIRC award on Facilitating Language Technologies for Crisis Preparedness and Response, with co-PIs Will Lewis and Fei Xia from UW; students will present papers at EMNLP, ACL, IWSLT, BEA, Interspeech, NAACL, Americas NLP, and Ancient Language Processing.
Research Experience
Currently an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science department at George Mason University; also a Collaborating Senior Researcher at Archimedes AI Research Center in Athens, Greece; previously a postdoctoral researcher at the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University under Graham Neubig.
Education
Completed PhD in 2019 at the University of Notre Dame, advised by David Chiang.
Background
Research interests include multilingual natural language processing and machine learning, with a main focus on machine translation and speech recognition for endangered languages and low-resource settings in general.
