Latest news reported that a robot performed the first laparoscopic surgery without human help. In four experiments on pig tissues, the robot excelled at suturing two ends of intestine, which is one of the most intricate and delicate tasks in abdominal surgery.
Research Experience
The lab works closely with NASA, FDA, ARL, NIST, NRL as well as local industries and other research groups both within and outside of Johns Hopkins University.
Background
Research interests include photonics and optoelectronics, with a focus on developing novel fiber optic imaging systems, fiber optic devices for medical applications, and ultrafast fiber optic and optoelectronic devices.
