Research Experience
He joined NUS-JHU Center for Information-enhanced Medicine at NUS in 1992 as a Research Associate. In 1995, he became an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at CUHK and was promoted to Professor in 2002. He has served as the Department Chairman and Head of Graduate Division. Since 1999, he has been the Director of CUHK Virtual Reality, Visualization, and Imaging Research Centre. Since 2006, he has also been the Director of Centre for Cognition and Interaction Technology at Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Education
He received his B.Sc. (Computer Science) from the National University of Singapore in 1985 and his Ph.D. (Computer Science) from Indiana University in 1992.
Background
Research interests include medical image analysis, artificial intelligence, surgical simulation, visualization, and extended reality. Currently, he is a Choh-Ming Li Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Director of Institute of Medical Intelligence and XR. He also serves as Co-Director of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Joint Lab of Human-Machine Intelligence Synergy Systems.
