Edited the International Handbook of Engineering Education Research (2023), which is available as Open Access. His research is primarily supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), including an Early CAREER Award. His work has been recognized with several best paper awards, and the International Handbook of Engineering Education Research (IHEER) and the Cambridge Handbook of Engineering Education Research (CHEER) both received the 2024 and 2015 Best Book Publication Awards from Division I of AERA. In 2022, he received the University Teaching Excellence Award with special recognition for High Impact Teaching and the OSCAR Mentoring Excellence Award for exceptional research mentoring of undergraduate students and fostering a culture of student scholarship at Mason.
Research Experience
He is currently a Professor of Information Sciences & Technology and the Dr. Lawrence Cranberg Endowed Research Fellow at George Mason University, directing the Technocritical Research on AI, Learning & Society Lab (trailsLAB). During the 2021-2022 academic year, he served as the Fulbright-Nokia Distinguished Chair in Information and Communication Technologies at Aalto University, Finland; Global Visiting Professor at the Institute for Ethics in AI (IEAI) at the Technical University of Munich, Germany; and a Visiting Scholar at the Leverhulme Center for the Future of Intelligence, Cambridge University, UK.

From 2007 to 2013, he was a faculty member in the Department of Engineering Education at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, and an Affiliate Faculty in Computer Science (CS), Industrial Systems and Engineering (ISyE), and Science and Technology in Society (STS).
