This study examines how mayors with Pentecostal affiliations influence adolescent pregnancy rates through local education policies. Leveraging a regression discontinuity design (RDD) based on Brazilian municipal elections and integrating multi-source administrative data with cohort analysis, the research identifies—for the first time—that Pentecostal-aligned parties significantly increase adolescent fertility rates by 40%, along with sexually transmitted infection rates and middle school dropout rates, while reducing the coverage of sex education by 12.5 percentage points, primarily through cuts to such programs. The analysis carefully distinguishes the effects of Pentecostal parties from those of other right-wing groups, thereby uncovering a causal mechanism through which religious political actors directly shape adolescent health behaviors via public education policy.
