Research Experience
- Applies an interdisciplinary approach with his team to create innovative techniques for developing secure applications. Core research topics include: automated generation of secure code, prediction of vulnerability locations via foundation models, software vulnerability repair, identification of vulnerability contributing commits, security tests, security-by-design, and threat analysis. His work heavily involves the use of AI and empirical methods such as controlled experiments and mining software repositories.
Education
- Received his PhD in Computer Science in 2004 from Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Worked in several countries including the United States (University of Virginia, 2003), Italy (Politecnico di Torino, 2004-2005), Belgium (KU Leuven, 2006-2014), and Sweden (University of Gothenburg, 2014-2020). Since late 2020, he has been the head of the Institute of Software Security at TUHH, Germany.
Background
- Full professor and head of the Institute of Software Security at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), Germany, and coordinator of the International Master in Information and Communication Systems. Father to two boys, a husband, and an amateur photographer. Favorite saying is 'done is better than perfect'.
