Previously researched probabilistic algorithms for automatic, unsupervised interpretation of data, such as underwater imagery of the seafloor obtained by autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). Involved in the creation and maintenance of several machine learning code-bases.
Education
Completed his PhD in July 2013 with the marine systems group at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, University of Sydney; holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics, first class honors) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the University of Sydney.
Background
Currently a senior research scientist and team leader at CSIRO (Data61), focusing on creating and applying machine learning models to support scientific research and experimentation. Main research interests include probabilistic machine learning algorithms, such as variational inference methods for Bayesian machine learning and using machine learning for causal inference.
