Academic Achievements
  • Amelia's iSCALE paper received the Kaushal Multidisciplinary Research Award from Penn Genetics; Jian Hu's SpaGCN paper won the inaugural Kaushal Interdisciplinary Science Award from Penn Genetics; David Zhang's research on super-resolution gene expression prediction from spatial transcriptomics data received the best poster presentation award from the 2nd Penn Big Data Conference; Kyle Coleman's paper on cell type deconvolution in spatial transcriptomics won the 2022 ASA Section of Statistics in Genomics and Genetics best student paper award.
Research Experience
  • The research covers multiple human diseases including age-related macular degeneration, Alzheimer’s disease, atherosclerosis, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, melanoma, testicular cancer, and gene therapy for rare diseases. Also involved in developing novel statistical and machine learning tools to solve genetics and genomics related questions.
Background
  • Research interests include using statistical and computational approaches to understand cellular heterogeneity in human disease relevant tissues, characterizing genomic and molecular diversity across cell types, studying the patterns of cell state transition and crosstalk of various cells using data generated from single-cell genomics, spatial transcriptomics, and other omics studies, and translating these findings to the clinics.
