Research Experience
Joined UBC as an assistant professor in 1992, now a full professor. Works with the PROOF Centre team to develop biomarker panels for conditions related to organ failures in hearts, lungs, or kidneys. With the Natural Language Processing Lab, focuses on conversations like emails, blogs, and meetings, aiming to create metadata such as natural language summaries to facilitate access to unstructured raw data.
Education
Obtained a BSc. (Hons.) in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia in 1986; M.Math. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo in 1988; and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1992.
