His main research areas include gait recognition, visual object detection, and remote sensing image processing. He created the CASIA-B gait database and the OpenGait open-source project in gait recognition. His face detection algorithms are widely used. He received the Second Prize of Natural Science Award from Guangdong Province in 2021 for his work in remote sensing image processing.
