Research focuses on enhancing student engagement in open-source projects by identifying and addressing the barriers students face in making their first contributions. Aims to improve the inclusivity of open-source environments, particularly addressing gender bias and fostering a more welcoming and supportive environment for diverse contributors.
Research Experience
Currently a Future Faculty Fellow at NAU, where he teaches, writes grants as a Principal Investigator, and conducts independent research. Served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) at the University of São Paulo, mentoring courses on software testing, information systems, and web development. In the 2024-2025 academic year, he taught a full course on open-source development as a lecturer at NAU and guided students through their Computer Science capstone projects.
Education
Earned a Bachelor's degree in Digital Media and Systems with Magna Cum Laude from the Federal University of Ceará in 2017. Holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science and Computational Mathematics from the University of São Paulo (USP-ICMC) and an M.Sc. in Informatics from Northern Arizona University (NAU). Expected to graduate with a Ph.D. in Informatics from NAU in May 2025.
Background
Primary research focus is on human aspects in software engineering, diversity and inclusion, and open-source software. Long-term goal is to design theoretically driven, evidence-based interventions that impact the lives of students and future developers, leading to technological innovations and a better future for society.
