Has led multiple research projects, such as Layerwise Cooperative 3D Printing (C3DP), using deep neural networks trained on human design decisions to guide novice designers in learning design tools and processes. Also participated in international conferences on accelerating design with human-machine teaming.
Research Experience
Currently leads the System Integration & Design Informatics Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin's Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering. Research projects span from AI-assisted design to swarm manufacturing.
Background
Research interests include AI for design (such as generative design, cross-modal synthesis, etc.), design decision-making, swarm manufacturing, complex systems engineering and design, decision-based enterprise-driven design, and social design and manufacturing.
Miscellany
Also interested in open-source product development, crowdsourcing, and community-based manufacturing.
