Research Experience
Joined the University of Siena in 1996, where he is currently a full professor in the Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics. Served as an Associate Editor of the Association for Computing Machinery’s Transactions on Internet Technology (ACM TOIT) and has been a member of the program committee of several international conferences and workshops. Guest Editor of a special issue of the ACM TOIT on machine learning and the Internet.
Education
Received the Laurea degree (cum laude) in Electronics Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering and Control Systems from the University of Florence, in 1991 and 1995, respectively.
Background
Research interests include machine learning, neural networks and kernel machines, integration of symbolic and sub-symbolic knowledge, web mining, search engine technology, pattern recognition, natural language processing, and computer vision.
