  • December 2017: Received the UNSW Faculty of Engineering 2017 'Staff Excellence Award in Education' for the development and delivery of industry-led course on Network Systems Architecture.
  • December 2017: Interviewed on SBS Hindi radio on his views on 'tech, future, and living in Australia'.
  • December 2017: Delivered his Inaugural Professorial lecture at UNSW.
  • November 2016: Gave a keynote address on SDN at the IEEE ANTS'16 conference in Bangalore, calling for industry and academia to collaborate on building the ecosystem and trialling solutions.

Research Experience
  • December 2017: Hassan delivered an invited paper titled 'Cloud Assisted Home Networks' at the CAN Workshop co-located with ACM CoNEXT in Seoul, Korea.
  • October 2017: Demonstrated the TeleScope SDN project at the SDN World Congress in The Hague, Netherlands.
  • September 2017: Hosted a full-day SDN workshop co-located with the GLIF event, with over 35 attendees and speakers from ESNet, Indiana University, CENIC, Aquinet, CSIRO, and UNSW.
  • August 2017: Hosted an SDN meetup on recent trends and experiences, with speakers from Noviflow, Lumina, and IDG.
  • July 2017: Taste-of-Research student Minzhao Lyu presented his paper on quantifying DDoS reflection attacks from IoT at WiSec'17 in Boston, MA, USA.
  • June 2017: PhD student Mohammad Chinaei presented his paper on secret key generation for passive WiFi devices at WoWMoM'17 in Macau, China.
  • May 2017: PhD student Arunan Sivanathan presented his paper on classifying IoT devices based on their network traffic signatures at the SmartCity'17 workshop at Infocom'17 in Atlanta, GA, USA.
  • April 2017: PhD student Muhammad Siddiqi presented his paper on secure logging of medical data from body-wearable devices at ISDFS'17 in Romania; MPhil student Himal Kumar presented his paper on geo-blocking and IP spoof protection at IXPs using SDN at the XDOM0 workshop at EuroSys'17.
  • March 2017: PhD student Ke Hu submitted his thesis!
  • February 2017: Summer interns Minzhao and Franco finished their 10-week research projects and submitted papers to WiSec'17 and IoT S&P'17 respectively.
  • December 2016: Our paper on SDN for the access network was accepted into the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking.
  • November 2016: Organized and hosted the SDN Training and Certification Workshop, which provided 5-day hands-on training in SDN hardware and controllers, along with formal ONF SDN certifications (OCSA and OCSE).
  • October 2016: Presented and demonstrated our CaSToR and TeleScope solutions at the SDN World Congress in The Hague, Netherlands.
  • September 2016: Gave lightning talks on CaSToR and TeleScope at AusNOG; hosted Dr. Arun Vishwanath from IBM Research who gave a talk on Energy Management in Smart Buildings.
  • August 2016: Ke Hu's paper on Air Pollution Estimation Models was accepted into the IEEE Sensors conference to be held in Florida, USA, in November.
  • July 2016: Team UNSW (Himal, Winston, Jason, Vijay) participated in the SDN Hackathon at Victoria University Wellington, New Zealand, and won first prize for building and demonstrating a system for detecting DDoS attacks.
