Currently co-advising PhD students working on LLM evaluation, post-training, and culturally-informed AI agents. Previously led research at Unbabel on multilingual LLMs, including LLM evaluation, post-training techniques, and advancing machine translation capabilities across languages.
Education
Completed his PhD at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, with a focus on machine translation evaluation, graduating Summa cum laude. His doctoral work was part of a collaborative program between Unbabel, IST, and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) known as Multilingual AI Agents Assistants (MAIA).
