Academic Achievements
  • Awarded a Moran Medal by the Australian Academy of Science in 2021 for his outstanding contribution to statistics research; recipient of an Australian Research Council Discovery Project grant on novel sequential Monte Carlo methods in 2020; was an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) Fellow from 2016-2019, generating 30 publications predominantly on new methods for likelihood-free Bayesian inference during this period.
Research Experience
  • Associate Investigator of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical Frontiers from 2015-2021; Chair of the Bayesian Statistics Section of the Statistical Society of Australia from 2016-2019; currently an Australian Research Council Future Fellow, conducting cutting-edge research on scalable and robust Bayesian methods for implicit statistical models.
Background
  • Professor in Statistics and Data Science at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. Research interests include: statistical inference for models with expensive or intractable likelihoods, computational Bayesian statistics, Monte Carlo methods such as Markov chain Monte Carlo and Sequential Monte Carlo, optimal Bayesian experimental design, and the translation of Bayesian statistics in applied disciplines.
