Published over 250 papers and authored six books on a wide array of subjects, including packet switching networks, packet radio networks, local area networks, broadband networks, gigabit networks, nomadic computing, intelligent software agents, performance evaluation, and peer-to-peer networks. Recipient of numerous awards, including the 2007 National Medal of Science, L.M. Ericsson Prize, NAE Charles Stark Draper Prize, Marconi International Fellowship Award, Dan David Prize, Okawa Prize, IEEE Internet Millennium Award, ORSA Lanchester Prize, ACM SIGCOMM Award, NEC Computer and Communications Award, Sigma Xi Monie A. Research Experience
Served as a Professor of Computer Science at UCLA since 1963, including as Department Chair from 1991-1995. Supervised research for over 50 Ph.D. students and numerous M.S. students. Co-founder of Linkabit Corporation, Nomadix, Inc., and Founder and Chairman of TTI/Vanguard.
