Co-editor of the books: 'Data Science for Healthcare: Methodologies and Applications' (2019) and 'Data Science for Economics and Finance: Methodologies and Applications' (2021). Associate Editor for IEEE Access and member of the Editorial Board of PLOS ONE and the Journal of Big Data.
Research Experience
Currently a researcher at the European Commission, Joint Research Centre (JRC), in Ispra (Italy), working within the Digital Health unit on the application of data science and AI methodologies in the healthcare domain. Previously, he was a Senior Scientist (2016-2018) at Philips Research, Eindhoven (NL), focusing on advancing automated analytical methods used to extract new knowledge from data for HealthTech applications. He also worked as a Computer Engineering Officer at the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers (2015-2016), as a Junior Researcher at the Semantic Technology Laboratory (STLab) at the National Research Council of Italy (2013-2015), as a Postdoctoral Grantholder at the European Commission, Joint Research Centre (JRC) (2011-2013), and as an ICT consultant at the Isab refinery (2009-2011).
Education
M.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Catania (Sicily, 2005); Ph.D. in Operational Research from Brunel University (London, 2008). During his time at Brunel University, he was an EU Marie Curie fellow on the project NET-ACE: Network Theory & Applications to Computing and Engineering.
