Academic Achievements
  • Fellow of the IET, Fellow of the IAPR (for services to biometrics and computer vision), Distinguished Fellow of the BMVA 2015 award. Former Chair of the IAPR Fellows Committee, President of the IEEE Biometrics Council, and Vice Chair IEEE PSPB. Chaired multiple international conferences including BMVC'98, AVBPA 2003, ICPR 2004, FG2006, and served as program co-chair or general chair for many top biometrics conferences.
Research Experience
  • Principal Investigator on the DARPA supported project 'Automatic Gait Recognition for Human ID at a Distance', worked on General Dynamics Defence Technology Centre's program on data fusion (biometrics), MoD/ARL (US) IBM-led Information Technology Alliance, and projects supported by EPSRC, NERC, and the EU.
Background
  • Professor in Computer Vision with research interests in image processing and computer vision. Developed new techniques for static and moving shape extraction (parametric and non-parametric) which have found application in automatic face and gait recognition, as well as medical image analysis.
