Academic Achievements
  • Led a team that has captured some of the largest datasets of HDR illumination, both indoors and outdoors, freely available to academic researchers; multiple papers accepted at conferences such as SIGGRAPH Asia 2025, ICCV 2025; students Charles and Charles won the Best Poster Award and 1st place at the “Project in 180 Seconds” competition at IAMOT 2025.
Research Experience
  • Worked as a Computer Vision Scientist at Tandent, Inc. for one year, followed by a Post-Doc at Disney Research, Pittsburgh. Currently, a Full professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Université Laval, also serving as the associate scientific director of the IID (Institute Intelligence and Data) since 2022, and became an Associate academic member at Mila in 2025.
Education
  • Ph.D. in 2011 from the Robotics Institute, School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, advised by Alyosha Efros and Srinivas Narasimhan.
Background
  • Research interests include computer vision, machine learning, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR). Particularly interested in exploring how physics-based models and data-driven machine learning techniques can be combined to better understand, model, interpret, and recreate the richness of our visual world.
Miscellany
  • Grew up in Québec City, Canada, lived almost 10 years in the States, and returned to this beautiful city in 2013.
