Teaches courses including CSC2420 Algorithm Design, Analysis and Theory. Authored lecture notes on discrepancy theory and its applications to computer science.
Research Experience
Currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto and Canada Research Chair in Algorithms and Private Data Analysis. Previously worked at Microsoft Research Redmond's Theory Group. Supervised several MSc and PhD students and regularly supervises research projects and independent studies for undergraduate students at the University of Toronto.
Education
Postdoc researcher at Microsoft Research Redmond's Theory Group from October 2014 to July 2015. Obtained a PhD from Rutgers University's Computer Science department, advised by Muthu. Supported by a Simons Graduate Fellowship from 2012 to 2014.
Background
Broadly interested in theoretical computer science and algorithm design. Research interests include the connections between high-dimensional geometry and computer science, applying geometric tools to private data analysis (differential privacy), discrepancy theory, and experimental design. Also works on high-dimensional computational problems such as nearest neighbor search and various geometric optimization problems. Interested in approximation algorithms, sublinear and parallel algorithms for analyzing massive data.
Miscellany
Born in Varna, Bulgaria, near the Black Sea coast. From a family of Banat Bulgarians on his mother's side. Nickname is Sasho.
