Resume (English only)
Academic Achievements
  • Member of the editorial boards for several international scientific journals including Genetic Programming and Evolvable Machines, Applied Soft Computing, Pattern Recognition Letters, and more. Guest editor for special issues on topics like biomedical image processing, historical document processing, and pattern recognition for cultural heritage published in Information, Journal of Imaging, and Pattern Recognition Letters.
Research Experience
  • General chair of the XVI International Workshop on Artificial Life and Evolutionary Computation (WIVACE 2022); Co-chair of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare Applications (AIHA 2022); Member of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Task Force on Evolutionary Computer Vision and Image Processing; Past member (2019-2021) of the executive board of SPECIES; Co-chair of AIHA 2020; Co-chair of PatReCH 2019; Technical co-chair of MetroArcheo 2018.
Background
  • Main research interests are in the investigation and implementation of new techniques in evolutionary computation and machine learning. Specifically, using evolutionary computation-based techniques to solve problems across various fields including feature selection, Bayesian networks, pattern recognition, and ensemble methods. In machine learning, the focus is on developing applications for real-life issues such as detecting and predicting neurodegenerative diseases through handwriting analysis, writer identification in ancient manuscripts, and water pollution detection.
