Advised nine Ph.D. students, most of whom continued in research after graduation. Served as a member of the Danish Research Council for Natural Sciences for four years.
Research Experience
Employed at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMADA) at the University of Southern Denmark from 1991 until the end of 2023. Co-chair (with Kevin Schewior) of the organizing committee for a PhD Summer School titled 'Intersections of Algorithms and Machine Learning Theory' at SDU in Odense, July 1-4, 2025.
Education
Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1983. Worked at the University of Chicago and Loyola University Chicago, and held visiting positions at Aarhus University, the University of Toronto, the University of Wisconsin, Madison, the University of California, Irvine, and the University of Waterloo.
Background
Research interests: online algorithms, combinatorial optimization, cryptology, Boolean functions, data structures, and computational complexity. Former Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), currently a participant in the 'Trade-Offs for Algorithms Facing Uncertainty' grant from Independent Research Fund Denmark, Natural Sciences, and a member of the Digital Democracy Centre at SDU.
