Research Experience
Currently a professor of computer science at the University of Bayreuth, heading the Chair of Data Systems since March 2023; also a guest professor at Technical University of Munich (TUM). Previously, an interim professor leading the Chair for Data Engineering at TUM Campus Heilbronn, and before that, led the Chair for Application and Middleware Systems at TUM as an interim professor, after working there as a post-doctoral researcher together with Prof. Hans-Arno Jacobsen.
Education
PhD from the University of Stuttgart (Advisor: Prof. Kurt Rothermel). During his doctoral studies, he was a guest researcher in the Embedded Pervasive Lab of Prof. Umakishore Ramachandran at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, USA.
Background
Research interests include distributed/decentralized information systems and data management, with a particular focus on improving the efficiency of machine learning systems. The team's focus areas are federated learning and graph neural networks. Recently, also exploring interdisciplinary aspects of machine learning and law.
