Academic Achievements
  • Completed the Accompany and SCRIPT projects, funded by the European Community's 7th Framework Programme. Has had continuous research output and projects since 2001, spanning multiple years.
Research Experience
  • 2006-2008, Technical Director at THINKlab, University of Salford, UK, and a member of the Centre for Rehabilitation and Human Performance Research (CRHPR). 2003-2006, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Rehabilitation Engineering Studies (CREST), Newcastle University, working on the i-match project with Prof. Garth Johnson. 2000-2003, Research Associate at the School of Cybernetics, University of Reading, collaborating with Prof. Harwin and a pan-European team on the GENTLE/s robot for neurorehabilitation. From 1990-1999, worked in various software/hardware engineering roles, ranging from hardware technician to senior system analyst.

Background
  • Research interests include human-robot interaction, with a focus on rehabilitation, assistive technology, and more recently, deep learning and machine learning approaches. He is a professor of Human-Robot Interaction at the School of Engineering and Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire, and a member of the Adaptive Systems Research Group. He also directs the Robot House and Kaspar projects.
