Academic Achievements
  • Supported by NSERC PGS-D Fellowship and SoftBank Group–Arm Fellowship; Previously supported by CMU Presidential Fellowship and NEC Fellowship.
Research Experience
  • Interned at Meta, working with Chenyan Xiong and Scott Wen-tau Yih; Visited Lingo lab at MIT in the summer of 2023, worked with Jacob Andreas there.
Education
  • PhD: Language Technologies Institute at CMU, advised by Graham Neubig; Undergraduate: University of Toronto.
Background
  • Research interests: How language models develop complex capabilities during training, drawing parallels with human cognitive development. Specific research directions include: (1) how to assess whether models truly understand language beyond pattern matching, particularly for figurative language and compositional reasoning; (2) how different capabilities emerge during pretraining; (3) how to design targeted interventions that improve specific capabilities without degrading others.
