Published several papers, including 'Recurrent Continuous Translation Models', 'Adaptor Grammars for Learning Non−Concatenative Morphology', and 'The Role of Syntax in Vector Space Models of Compositional Semantics'.
Research Experience
Worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh with Miles Osborne on machine translation; since 2009, has been at the University of Oxford in the Department of Computer Science and as a Senior Research Fellow at St Hugh's College; founded and led the Natural Language research group at DeepMind London from 2014 to 2021.
Education
Completed PhD at the University of Melbourne, supervised by Timothy Baldwin, Steven Bird, and James Curran.
Background
Research interests lie at the intersection of machine learning and computational linguistics, applying techniques like deep learning to language analysis and processing. Recently focused on developing AI algorithms capable of understanding and generating natural language.
