Research Experience
- Led development of XAI systems for non-expert users, including the EPSRC-funded CHAI project for AI-enabled smart homes, trialed in real homes in early 2023
- Developed interactive systems providing global, local, and counterfactual explanations
- Pioneered XAI approaches for graph neural networks, reinforcement learning, and time series ML models
- Explored the interplay between XAI and security
- Built multi-agent, data-driven event reasoning frameworks to correlate heterogeneous events in distributed complex environments for situation awareness
- Applied research in intelligent cyber-physical systems, smart homes, and smart city energy/transport management
- Conducted theoretical research on uncertain information modeling and fusion, event correlation and reasoning, belief modeling and revision, online planning under uncertainty, and multi-criteria decision making under uncertainty

- Currently holds the Chair of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Bristol
- Research interests include: Explainable AI (XAI), data-driven intelligent autonomous systems, smart cyber-physical systems, large-scale sensor network event modeling, reasoning and correlation in uncertain environments, and information fusion under uncertainty
