Research Experience
Conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Sheffield from 1979 to 1981, then moved to Columbia University in 1981. In 1995, he joined the University of California, San Diego, as a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology. In 2014, he became the Associate Director for Data Science at NIH. In January 2017, he accepted a position as the director of the University of Virginia's Data Science Institute.

Obtained his PhD in 1979 from Flinders University, specializing in physical chemistry.

Currently, he serves as the Stephenson Chair of Data Science and Director of the School of Data Science, and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia.
