Selected as one of the MIT Technology Review's TR35 (2005) for work on Cognitive Radios; featured by MIT Technology Review as one of the 10 Emerging Technologies (2006). Fellow of the World Technology Network, IEEE Fellow (class'15), and ACM Fellow (Class'22). Received the ECE Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2021. Recent work on protecting human creatives from unethical data exploration received the USENIX Internet Defense Prize (2023), the Chicago Innovation Award (2023), a special mention in TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions (2023), and the Community Impact Award from the Concept Art Association (2024).
Research Experience
Before joining the University of Chicago, she spent 6 years in industry labs (Bell-Labs and Microsoft Research Asia) and 12 years at the University of California, Santa Barbara. At UChicago, she co-directs the SAND Lab (Security, Algorithms, Networking, and Data) with Prof. Ben Y. Zhao.
