Research Experience
  • Currently, a Professor of Linguistics in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Guwahati, actively involved with the Center for Linguistic Science and Technology there. Prior to this, worked in the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, South Korea, from 2008 to 2011.
Education
  • Received an MA in Linguistics from the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages, Hyderabad, in 2002; an MPhil in Linguistics from the same institution in 2005; and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Florida.
Background
  • Research interests include phonetics, speech analysis, speech perception, and speech technology development. Particularly passionate about the production and perception of tones, having worked on tones in Bodo, Dimasa, Mizo, Paite, Poula, Rabha, and Tiwa. Recently, has been working on the sociophonetics of Assamese and Angami.

  • Teaches a BTech elective course titled 'Introduction to Phonetics' for third-semester students and a survey course on 'Writing Systems of the World' at IIT Guwahati.
