He is currently (co-)supervising Nesreen Alaref, Alia Al Dossary, Sahar Altahi, Jake Bhattacharyya, Serena Dimitri, Evangelia Fringi, Francesco Perrone, Emily Smith, and Ana Carolina Torres Cresto.
Research Experience
Currently, he is one of the leaders of the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Socially Intelligent Artificial Agents (SOCIAL), which trains 50 PhD students in Artificial Social Intelligence (2019-2027). Additionally, he leads the SONICOM project, funded by the European Commission through the FET-Proact Program, focusing on non-verbal communication in virtual environments (2021-2025). In the past, he was the coordinator of the Social Signal Processing Network (the European Network of Excellence on SSP) and the PI of over 10 national projects (Swiss and British). He is also a co-founder of Klewel, a knowledge management company recognized with several national and international awards, and a scientific advisor for Substrata.
Background
Full Professor at the University of Glasgow, with research interests in Social Signal Processing (SSP), focusing on the modeling, analysis, and synthesis of nonverbal behavior in human-human and human-machine interactions. His research aims to infer psychological constructs (such as personality, conflict, attachment, roles, etc.) from automatically detected nonverbal behavioral cues in signals captured through multiple sensors. He is a member of the Social AI group.
