Research has been successfully applied to several societal challenges in funded research projects, including School Segregation, Slum Growth, Crowd Dynamics, Mental Health, and Transportation.
Research Experience
Currently an Associate Professor at the University of Amsterdam, leading the Computational Science Lab (Informatics Institute). Also a principal investigator for complexity at the Institute for Advanced Study. Previously an Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore.
Education
PhD in Adaptive Optimistic Simulation of Multi-Agent Systems from the University of Nottingham; Joint Honours Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence degree from Edinburgh University.
Background
Research interests: Using and developing computational techniques to understand human or social complex systems. The primary method is agent-based models for reasoning about human complex systems. Research agenda focuses on the development of computational models of artificial societies to understand and manage complex social processes.
