Academic Achievements
- IMS Medallion Lecturer in 2016, elected IMS Fellow in 2017, awarded the Guy Silver Medal from the Royal Statistical Society in 2020. In 2024, received the Akaike Memorial Award of the Japanese Statistical Society and was the Breiman Lecturer at NeurIPS.
Research Experience
- Was a Statutory Professor in Oxford Statistics Department and Senior Staff Research Scientist at DeepMind until 2024. Now full-time at DeepMind and a visiting professor in the department of Statistics.
Background
- Research interests lie in the development and analysis of efficient computational methods for inference and learning, machine learning, signal processing and related areas. Recently, got very interested in generative modeling (in particular denoising diffusion models) and computational optimal transport.
