Leads the Analysis/Synthesis team, focusing on research and development in the analysis, transformation, and synthesis of sound signals.
Research Experience
From 1994 to 1996, he conducted research on the use of artificial neural networks for adaptive modeling of signals generated by nonlinear dynamic systems at the German National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD-First); from 1996 to 2000, he was an associate professor of digital signal processing in the Department of Communication Sciences at the Technical University of Berlin; in 2000, he received a research fellowship at CCRMA (Stanford University), where he began investigating adaptive sinusoidal modeling.
Education
Graduated from the University of Hanover in electrical engineering in 1990; obtained a Ph.D. in computer science from the Technical University of Berlin in 1993.
Background
Axel Roebel is a research director at IRCAM and the head of the Analysis/Synthesis (AS) team. His research interests include signal processing, music information retrieval, and sound synthesis.
