Academic Achievements
- Published the book 'Data Visualization - Principles and Practice', first edition in 2008, second edition in 2014, Chinese edition in 2018, with over 6000 copies sold. Has a Google Scholar profile. Supervised around 40 PhD students and 100+ MSc students as thesis director.
Research Experience
- Formerly a full professor of Multiscale Visual Analytics at the SVCG group, Bernoulli Institute, Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Groningen. Currently a full professor in Visual Data Analytics at the Department of Information and Computing Sciences, Utrecht University.
Education
- PhD research (2000) on the design and implementation of VISSION, an application-building environment for VIsualization and SImulation with Object-oriented Networks. Proved that everything one can achieve in Java can also be done in C++; only better, cleaner, faster, and easier.
