Research Experience
- Currently a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Graduate School of AI, and Department of Applied Data Science at Sungkyunkwan University, leading the Natural Language Processing (NLP) Laboratory.
Education
- Completed Ph.D. in August 2003, worked at Dong-A University from September 2004 until joining Sungkyunkwan University in September 2019. Visiting scholar at the Computational Linguistics and Information Processing Laboratory (CLIP) at the University of Maryland, College Park, collaborating with Prof. Doug Oard.
Background
- Research Interests: Natural Language Processing (dialogue system, question/answering system, etc.), Information Retrieval (generative IR, etc.), Generative AI (controllable text generation, etc.), and Text Mining (text classification/summarization, sentiment classification, etc.). Recently, interested in developing and utilizing small Language Models (sLM) and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).

- Welcomes new graduate and undergraduate students to the research group; Encourages prospective students to fill out the Google form with CV including transcript for a short-term internship before applying to the master's program; Participated in talks like 'What is ChatGPT?' at 성대의 성대한 특강 and 'Neural Symbolic AI' at SKKU AI Colloquium; Lab tours featured in AI Society Newsletter 2021 and SKKUZINE 2022.
