Academic Achievements
  • Elected as a Fellow of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) in 2022 and received the AAG Distinguished Scholar Award in 2025. Ranked 2nd in Urban Analytics, 4th in GeoAI, 6th in Spatial Data Science, 10th in Spatial Econometrics, and 19th in GIScience according to the most recent Google Scholar Citation Global Rankings. Listed among the top 2% of scientists globally since 2020 based on citation data compiled by Stanford University. Also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a Senior Member of IEEE. Received the national first-place research award from the University Economic Development Association in 2011, and honored with the Emerging Scholar Award (2012) and Distinguished Scholar Award (2022) in Regional Development and Planning by the AAG, along with other faculty research awards.
Research Experience
  • Previously held roles at Texas A&M University (TAMU) including Harold Adams Endowed Professor in Urban Informatics, Chancellor EDGES Fellow, and Stellar Faculty Provost Target Hire. Directed the Center for Geospatial Sciences, Applications, and Technology (GeoSAT), established by the Texas A&M Board of Regents, and served as the first Faculty Fellow for Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships in the Division of Research.

  • PhD in Geographic Information Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara, 2010; M.S. in Geographic Information Systems from Eastern Michigan University; M.A. in Human Geography from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee; B.S. in Urban Planning from Zhejiang University.
