Academic Achievements
  • In 2015, he was awarded the Lagrange Prize by SIAM and MOS for co-authoring the book 'Introduction to Derivative-Free Optimization'. He is a SIAM Fellow (Class of 2024) and has served as the Chair of the SIAM Activity Group on Optimization (2023-2025) and President of ACORD at INFORMS (2024-2025). He has published numerous papers.

  • He held visiting positions at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, IMA/University of Minnesota, Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences/NYU, Université Paul Verlaine of Metz, Roma/Sapienza, and Rice University. During 2010-2015, he was a Visiting Chercheur Sénior at CERFACS and Institut National Polytechnique, Toulouse.

  • He obtained his PhD from Rice University in 1996, under a Fulbright scholarship, receiving from Rice the Ralph Budd Thesis Award.
