Developed the concept of social collateral as a tractable framework for thinking about repeated games in social networks; uses a combination of lab and field experiments with real social networks to estimate these models.
Research Experience
Senior Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research New England. Has worked with co-authors Adam Szeidl, Tanya Rosenblat, Attila Ambrus, and Dean Karlan to develop the social collateral approach to social capital.
Background
His main research agenda deals with the economics of social networks. On the theory side, he builds models of learning, coordination, and cooperation within social networks; particularly interested in how social networks can generate trust. He has also explored the impact of non-resume variables like confidence and physical attractiveness in the labor market, and recently became interested in using browsing data to analyze the economics of online news consumption.
Miscellany
Stands with Ukraine and its brave people; expressed regret over Central European University being forced to move much of their academic operations from Budapest to Vienna, seeing it as a great loss to Hungary and academic freedom in general.
