Has authored a book published by Springer and over 100 peer-reviewed papers in high-ranking international scientific journals and top computer science conferences such as JAIR, Royal Society Interface, Nature Scientific Reports, etc. Awarded several prestigious fellowships and grants, including from the Future of Life Institute, Leverhulme, and FWO Belgium.
Research Experience
Was a postdoctoral research fellow at the AI Lab of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) before joining Teesside University. He also completed a joint Masters degree at the New University of Lisbon and Technical University of Dresden.
Education
Received his PhD on Intention Recognition, Commitments and Their Roles in the Evolution of Cooperation from Universidade Nova de Lisboa on May 11, 2012.
Background
Currently a Professor in Computer Science and Lead of the Center for Digital Innovation (CDI) at Teesside University. His research interests span AI safety behavioral modeling, dynamics of human cooperation, AI cognitive modeling, evolutionary game theory, agent-based modeling, intention recognition, and knowledge representation and reasoning.
