Published over 350 papers and attracted funds exceeding £10M. Co-founded ngenics company in 2012. Co-author of 'Introduction to Evolvable Hardware: A Practical Guide for Designing Self-Adaptive Systems' (2007) and 'Evolvable Hardware: From Practice to Application' (2015). Served as General Programme Chair for ICES 2003, 2013-2018; Programme Chair for IPCAT 2005 and 2015; General Chair for CEC 2009. Currently, Editor-in-Chief for IET journal on Computers & Digital Techniques.
Research Experience
Joined the Electronics Department at York University in April 1990, promoted to Chair of Digital Electronics in 1998. Previously, he was a Senior Lecturer at Coventry Polytechnic. Between August 1987 and August 1988, he was a visiting research fellow at Ecole Polytechnique Lausanne, Switzerland, researching into the evaluation and performance of multiprocessor systems. From September 1973 to September 1979, worked for STC at Paignton Devon on the design and development of high-frequency devices.
Education
Received a 1st class honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1982 and a PhD in the same field in 1985.

Research interests include bio-inspired computing and AI, evolutionary algorithms, fault-tolerant design, microprocessor design, etc. Specializes in digital electronics.
