Received the NSF CAREER Award in 2018; Mentored students who have achieved significant success, such as Xiaoxue Zhang joining the University of Nevada, Reno as a tenure-track faculty after PhD graduation; Haofan Cai joining the University of Hawaii at Mānoa as a tenure-track faculty; Minmei Wang joining the University of Connecticut as a tenure-track faculty; Xiaofeng Shi joining AT&T Labs - Research as a senior inventive scientist. Additionally, En4S paper received Best Paper Award of ACM SoCC 2024.
Research Experience
Was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Kentucky (2013-2016). Now a Professor (since 2020) and Associate Professor (2020-2022) at the University of California Santa Cruz, serving as the Graduate Director since 2023.
Education
Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013, advised by Simon S. Lam; M.Phil. from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2009-2013), worked with Prof. Lionel M. Ni; Bachelor's degree (highest honor) from Nanjing University, Department of Computer Science, 2006, supervised by Prof. Jiafu Xu and Prof. Fangmin Song.
Background
Research interests include computer networking, Internet of Things, network security, edge and cloud computing, SDN/NFV, RFID, mobile/pervasive computing, quantum networks, and storage systems. Currently a Professor and Graduate Director in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at University of California Santa Cruz.
