Research Experience
Worked as a member of the technical staff at Philips Research Laboratory in N.Y., assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University at Buffalo, senior research scientist (ST) at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, professor in the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at West Virginia University, and full professor in the Department of Computer Science at Oakland University. Founded the Biometrics & Identity Innovation Center (BIIC) and was the director of the Cognitive Computing Laboratory (CCL) at WVU.
Education
Received B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College of Science and Technology (University of London) in July 1980; Ph.D. in the same field from the same institution in October 1984.
Background
Research interests include machine learning, deep neural networks, image processing, computer vision, biometrics, and sparsity theory. Has served as a professor and technical scientist at multiple institutions.
