Received his Master's degree (German Diplom) in Business Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany in 1994; earned his PhD from the Computer Science Department of Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany in 1998; and obtained 'Habilitation' for computer science from the same university in 2004.
