Academic Achievements
  • Co-authored a book on Embeddings in NLP with Taher Pilehvar; organized the WiC challenge which was part of the SemDeep shared task at IJCAI and featured in SuperGLUE; recently co-organized a SemEval task on Tabular Data Question Answering; involved in projects such as RelBERT, CREHate (best resource paper award at NAACL 2025), and BLEnD.
Research Experience
  • Worked as a research engineer for a year at ATILF-CNRS in Nancy, France. His research focuses on various topics in NLP, with a particular interest in how relational knowledge is captured in current NLP models and its role in applications.
Education
  • Holds an Erasmus Mundus Master in Natural Language Processing and Human Language Technology and a 5-year BSc degree in Mathematics. Was a Google Doctoral Fellow and PhD student at the Linguistic Computing Laboratory (LCL) of Sapienza University of Rome.
Background
  • Currently a Professor at the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University. Also a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow since 2021, and co-founder of the Cardiff NLP group in 2020. Research interests include language understanding and applications within Natural Language Processing (NLP).
Miscellany
  • Enjoys traveling and sports, raised in Granada, Spain. Has lived in large European cities like Paris, Barcelona, and Rome, and spent significant time in Seoul. Loves playing football, swimming, tennis, padel, ping pong, and chess. Holds the International Master chess title and is currently the Welsh chess champion and top-ranked player.
