Academic Achievements
Fellow of JFES (2016), ACM Distinguished Scientist (2016), Member of Academia Europaea (2019), IEEE Fellow (2020), and Member of Engineering Academy of Japan (2020). Published multiple papers in top conferences such as ICFP 2025, POPL 2025, etc.
Research Experience
Became a lecturer (assistant professor) in 1997 and an associate professor in 2000 at the University of Tokyo. Joined the National Institute of Informatics as a full professor in 2008. Was a full professor in the Department of Communication and Information Engineering at the University of Tokyo during 2018-2019.
Education
Received BS and MS degrees from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1988 and 1991 respectively, and a PhD degree from the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Tokyo in 1996.
Background
Main interest lies in programming languages and software engineering, particularly functional programming, bidirectional transformation, and software adaptation. Very interested in transformational programming and its application to automatic program optimization, systematic parallelization of sequential programs, efficient manipulation of structured documents, and bidirectional model transformation for software development.
