Current projects leverage ML, DL, RL; LLMs, VLMs, MLLMs; as well as CV and NLP techniques for building AI- and GenAI-powered solutions for IoT sensor data analytics, industrial and medical image analysis, hateful content detection and offline event prediction, sports injury prediction, and motivational education.
Research Experience
Currently an Associate Professor in Data Analytics and Machine Learning at Deakin University's School of Information Technology, with research areas including data management and data science, computer vision and multimedia computation, distributed computing and systems software, cybersecurity and privacy, machine learning, theory of computation, artificial intelligence, and applied computing.
Background
Research interests span a range of combinatorial optimization and machine learning problems in data science, with a particular focus on: Time series analysis and streaming analytics, Multimodal (e.g., text and image), multitask, few-shot, federated, and interpretable machine learning, Graph or Social Network data mining and data management, Constrained clustering, coverage problems, and submodular optimization. Additionally, serves as Co-Director of the cross-faculty Tackling Hate Lab, focusing on social media data analytics and social event causal inference.
Miscellany
Actively seeking highly motivated and exceptional students and research assistants/fellows interested in conducting research in the areas mentioned above, as well as in related fields.
