Research Experience
Leads the Computational Mechanics Group in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The group develops and implements a variety of novel numerical tools for a range of multiscale and multiphysics problems.
Background
Bliss Professor and Executive Associate Dean. Research interests span several areas within computational mechanics, including the computational analysis and design of novel biomimetic materials (including self-healing and microvascular materials), simulation of manufacturing processes, fundamental problems in quasi-static and dynamic fracture mechanics, dynamic response of materials, failure of thin films and MEMS, theoretical and computational analysis of wave tailoring granular media, constitutive and failure response of advanced composites, energetic materials and structural ceramics, aeroelasticity and aeroacoustics, multiscale analysis and design of heterogeneous materials.
