Joined the Electrical Engineering department at the University of Southern California (USC) in 1994, where he is currently a Professor. Has served as Associate Chair of EE-Systems and director of the Signal and Image Processing Institute at USC.

Received a Telecommunications Engineering degree from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid in 1989; Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University in 1994 (supported by a Fulbright scholarship).
